Throwback Radio Thursday - For Sale By Owner: Part Three
Published Thursday, October 29, 2020
Did you know that our very own Vince DePaul, Director of Your House Academy, started his career as a real estate broker and continuing education instructor in 1976? For ten years he produced and hosted a weekly, live call-in radio broadcast in Chicago called “Your House” where he was known as “Mr. Real Estate.” You will be able to read the content that Vince once broadcasted across the radio! The 10th topic we will be discussing today is for sale by owner, part three.
For sale by owner, or FSBO for short, is a term used for a certain method of selling a property. FSBO means that the owner of the property sells the property without the use of a broker or agent. Sellers who usually use this method want to try and avoid paying the real estate agent or broker commission on the sale. Let us go over the third reason why someone would want to FSBO their home.
Vince states, “It’s time to sell your home. It is your first home and you have never sold a home before... but it should not be hard. You've got a nice home and all... you'll try to sell it by owner... just put a sign in the front yard, run an ad or two in the local newspaper and buyers will come by... and maybe one will buy it, simple. Simple!!?...
A lot of families begin selling their home, without ever spending time becoming familiar with the process itself. The fact is, selling a home is a long list of do's and don’ts that is better off left to the professional. You will have enough to do to just handle the emotion that comes along with selling a house. Some people do get there home sold by owner... but many of them wish they would have used a broker... and swear they would never do it again. There must be a reason that nationally... 8 out of 10 times... the owners for sale sign in the lawn is eventually replaced by a Realtor's sign. When you know the process, you will want a pro. And that is the Real Estate Reality and I am Vince DePaul.”
Next week Vince will continue the conversation on for sale by owner with the fourth and final reason. See you next week!
