IMPORTANT UPDATES TO THE ILLINOIS EXAM REVIEW AUDIO FILES (as of April 2011)

ILLINOIS LICENSE LAW
There are now three categories of real estate licensing in Illinois; Managing Broker, Broker (also called Associate Broker), and Leasing Agent.

The highest license category is now the MANAGING BROKER LICENSE. This license requires a total of 165 hours of education and two years of experience.

The next license category (entry level) is the BROKER LICENSE. A broker license must be activated under a managing broker’s license. The requirements for a broker license are 21 years of age or older, 90 hours of pre-license education and 30 hours of post-license education.

LICENSE RENEWALS
Licenses are renewed every two years. Managing broker licenses expire on April 30 of each odd numbered year and broker licenses expire on April 30 of every even numbered year.

CONTINUING EDUCATION
To renew your license, a broker needs 12 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. A managing broker is required to complete 24 hours of CE including 12 hours of broker management CE.

HOMESTEAD ESTATE
In Illinois, every homeowner is entitled to a homestead estate of $15,000 per person or $30,000 per couple in land and buildings occupied as a principle residence.

REAL ESTATE RECOVERY FUND
The maximum amount that can be recovered by the consumer is now $25,000 for each offense.

REAL ESTATE TRANSCRIPTS
Students have four years from the course completion date (found on the transcript) to take the state exam. However, if a student fails the exam, it must be retaken within one year of the original testing date. The exam may be taken a total of four times within that year.

Exam Smart - Great Study Aid!

ExamSmart is a great tool to help you study for the State Exam

  • The questions in ExamSmart are similar to the questions on the State Exam
  • When answering questions ExamSmart gives you an explanation as to why the correct answer was correct as well as an explanation on why the incorrect answers were not correct (this is a great way to learn!)
  • One of the key success factors for passing an exam is to practice taking it several times — this is a great way to do that!

A REALTOR® is a licensed real estate agent who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, (NAR) the largest trade group in the country.

Every agent is not a REALTOR®.  You become a REALTOR® after you pass your real estate course, pass the state license exam, join a real estate company and then join the National Association of REALTORS®.

According to the NAR, the term REALTOR has one, and only one, meaning:
"REALTOR® is a federally registered collective membership mark which identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics."

Michael Fair, President and Director of Your House Academy is an NAR member.
